Hi ! Welcome to slayerwulfe9slayerwulfe : American http://sites.google.com/site/slayerwulfe6ragnar0k/
About the images presented here. I believe this may be one of the oldest, intact pieces in American ceramics.
Possibly 17th century, but even a good 18th century piece is worth adding to any data base of information.
It has been difficult ( which means impossible ) to get any reliable information on salt glazing a
basically Anorthite body.
Sperm whale, Dolphin, Urchin ?
The dark dot in the light colored square area, whatever this is several will fit in the dark red below, it's possibly a variety of magnesium aluminate. /zirconium.
Stoneware and porcelain are very similar chemically, and I'm sure you have noticed it is under the glaze all of
it is. Most metallic oxides become soluble in the melting glaze, the splotchy light colored areas. This dark red looks a lot like a spinel.
How beautiful chemistry really is, in this moment captured. Sodium combining with free silica as it becomes available,
A very flat bottom, on the interior, no clay slip applied.
